Our Story

About Our Founders

Our journey with our son Kylan began when he was diagnosed with Level 3 autism at just 2 years old. Like many parents, my husband Jacob and I were filled with questions, worry, and a deep desire to help our child reach his fullest potential. Though we saw progress with early therapies, we knew there was something more out there for Kylan – something that could help him in a way that traditional options hadn’t. That search led us on a path of faith and discovery, ultimately inspiring us to start Jeremiah’s Promise.

We found hope and inspiration through a place called Jacob’s Ladder, a transformative sanctuary led by the incredible Amy O'Dell. There, we discovered the profound impact of the Interpersonal Whole Brain Model of Care (IWBMC), a unique approach that ignited a sense of possibility we never imagined. Jacob’s Ladder provided not only the right support but also a loving,

individualized environment where children could truly thrive. This experience was nothing short of life-changing for us. It was clear that we needed to bring this powerful model of care to our

own community—a place where we could blend cutting-edge science with the love and guidance

of a Christian environment.

At Jeremiah’s Promise, we don’t believe any child is defined by their diagnosis. Every child has strengths and potential waiting to be unlocked. It’s not just about managing symptoms – it’s about addressing the brain’s ability to change and grow through neuroplasticity. We believe every child, no matter their diagnosis or challenges, deserves the opportunity to thrive.

For us, Jeremiah’s Promise is more than just a school. It’s a ministry – a place where God’s love is at the center of everything we do. Our mission is to serve families who face some of life’s toughest challenges, and to give them the hope and support they need. We know what it’s like to wonder what the future holds for your child, to face daily emotional and financial stresses. Through God’s divine guidance, we’re here to renew families' strength and remind them that they are not alone on this journey.

I’m incredibly grateful to be part of a place that is changing lives. At Jeremiah’s Promise, we have the privilege of witnessing amazing breakthroughs – not only in the children we serve but, in their families, as well. It’s a blessing to offer this support, and to stand as a reminder that through faith, hope, and love, all things are possible. – Vanessa Markel Smith
